Mildred is an 11-year-old girl whose life takes an unexpected turn when her estranged father, Strawn Wise, suddenly re-enters her life. Strawn, a washed-up magician with a troubled past, has been out of touch with Mildred for years, leaving her to navigate life without much knowledge of him. Despite their distant relationship, circumstances bring them together when Strawn is tasked with looking after her for a period of time.
